Five-Day Road Closure Begins July 24 on Chiwawa Loop Road
On Monday, July 24, a five-day road closure begins at milepost 3.43 on Chiwawa Loop Road.
The road closure is necessary so crews can install a concrete box culvert at Clear Creek. The current box culvert in place is a fish barrier; the new one will provide passage for fish in the creek. Work also includes stream restoration and habitat improvements as well as new guardrail along the roadway.
Motorists should use Beaver Hill Road and Chumstick Highway to avoid the road closure.
Motorists are also reminded that Chiwawa Loop Road, from milepost 3.35 to 4.57, is down to one lane, with flagger-controlled traffic as crews continue to work on a major road restoration project in that area. Expect delays of up to 20 minutes in the work area. The entire project will be completed in mid-October.
Homeowners in the road closure area should expect to be without power from 6 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, as a Chelan County PUD crew lowers powerlines so a crane can lower the box culvert into place. They will again be without power for a short time in the late afternoon when crews put those powerlines back in place following the installation of the box culvert.
The closed portion of roadway is expected to be open again by the morning of Friday, July 28.
