Swift Water Rescue

The Chelan County Swift Water Rescue team (SWR) is a team of deputies aided by volunteers who oversee, coordinate, and perform any rescue scenario on moving water.  Primarily the SWR team works in the west end of Chelan County however they are able to respond anywhere they are needed.  All SWR team members are SRT1 certified and participate in ongoing training throughout the year.  Each member is trained in the use of various tools including rafts, inflatable and hard shell kayaks, and standup paddle boards.  We also frequently incorporate complex rope systems to access our victims.  This is all in addition to simpler tools such as throw bags, and reaching devices.  The SWR team works with other local agencies to increase resources at the rescue scene and due to the remoteness of some areas of the river, to help contain the situation until the SWR team members can arrive.

In the last few years we have seen a significant surge in use on the Wenatchee River.  This is mostly due to commercial inner tube rentals and advances and availability to new ways of “playing” on the river.  The SWR team strongly encourages the use of Personal Flotation Device anytime the public is using the rivers.
