Posted By: Sheriff's Office on September 21, 2018
Sheriff Burnett reports that on 9/20/18, at approximately 2001 hours, dispatch received a report of an injured hiker in the Mount Stuart area.
The initial report indicated a 21-year-old male was repelling the west side of Mount Stuart when he suffered equipment failure, causing him to fall about 30 yards. The male suffered substantial injuries and a helicopter from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island was requested for the rescue mission.
After two attempts to place rescuers on the ground to assist, the victim was successfully hoisted up to the helicopter and flown to Pangborn where he was then transported by ambulance to Central Washington Hospital.
