Description

Salary: PW08 Steps 2-4 $4,183.56-$4,570.87 Longevity Steps 5-8 $4,779.16-$5,468.64

The position includes a state retirement system, with a deferred comp program available. Health insurance package includes Medical, Dental, and county contributions to a personal health savings account. Includes 11 paid holidays and 2 floating personal holidays along with monthly accrued vacation and sick leave. 

SUMMARY

The Head Chainperson is a participating member of the county survey crew, assists in operation of surveying instruments, leveling and measuring accessories as a part of the team. Survey work including, but not limited to right-of-way surveying, cadastral surveying, geodetic surveying, topographic surveying, construction surveying and the establishment and preservation of county right-of-way monumentation, property corners and control.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following, other duties may be assigned;

Operating survey prism w/staff, level or stadia rods at designated points in determining elevations and laying out stakes for mapmaking, construction, land boundaries, right-of-way and other surveys.

Assist in operation of surveying instruments and downloading collected electronic field notes to the office network.

Assist in accurate measurement of distances between survey points with steel or cloth tape, surveyor's chain, electronic distance meter or G.P.S. Installing grade stakes at a specified horizontal position and elevation.

Reading and/or writing station numbers, construction annotations, control information and survey or construction plan notebooks.

Marking survey information on the ground or on survey stakes with station number, elevation, grading information, control information or other identifying survey information.

Cutting and clearing brush and trees from line of survey.

Operate jackhammer for driving survey stakes and placement of survey monuments.

Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; one (1) year experience working on a survey crew; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to the public, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamental algebra, basic trigonometry, fundamental understanding of plane and solid geometry. Also the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A valid Washington State Driver's License.
