The Chelan County Regional Justice Center’s K9 Unit was chosen by the Gesa Community Foundation to receive its Local Heroes Grant Award. The $15,000 grant will help cover operational costs next year for the K9 unit.

The Chelan County Regional Justice Center is a 267 bed adult correctional facility, located in the city of Wenatchee that serves a population of over 100,000 people and encompasses a geographical area of over 5,000 square miles. Jail staff facilitates court appearances for inmates scheduled for Chelan and Douglas County Superior and District Courts and East Wenatchee Municipal Court. Participation in Electronic Home Monitoring, Alcohol Monitoring and Work Release is available for court-approved, sentenced offenders. Basic medical, mental health and nutritional needs are met and provided for by support staff. All jail corrections staff are fully trained professionals dedicated to providing public safety.
The Chelan County Regional Justice Center offers a variety of programs that benefit the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of offenders incarcerated in this facility. In addition to the Volunteer Inmate Worker program, other programs are: Religious Services and Counseling, AA and NA meetings, Educational Services and release planning. Community partners assisting with these programs are the Catholic Family Services, Washington State Department of Corrections, Victory Ministries and Community Partnership for Transition Solutions (CPTS).
