For the past year, the Chelan-Douglas Homeless Housing Task Force has been actively updating the five-year homeless housing plan, which will serve as a guide to prioritizing and creating future housing programs or services for the two counties. Watch for the draft plan in early May.
Chelan County District Court Judge Jon Volyn talks about Community Court, a new program he is spearheading. Community Court, which is kicking off now, will give low-level offenders an opportunity to turn their lives around. By committing to the one- to two-year program, people will be matched with services in town while checking in with the District Court judge and caseworkers every couple of weeks. The new program has the potential to reduce the number of repeat offenders in our community while also building self-esteem and confidence in individuals who need assistance.
