County seeks local Purple Heart recipients for 2025 Hall of Honor induction

In 2024, Chelan County Commissioners signed a proclamation declaring Chelan County a Purple Heart County.

As a Purple Heart County, the Chelan County Veteran Services Office each year honors the bravery and sacrifice of military service members wounded or killed in action by identifying local recipients of the Purple Heart Medal for induction into the Chelan County Hall of Honor.

The initiative is part of the county’s ongoing commitment to recognizing and preserving the legacy of our nation’s heroes. The Hall of Honor, which is a commemorative plaque hung at the Chelan County Veteran Services Office in Wenatchee, pays tribute to those who have received the Purple Heart, the oldest military decoration still awarded to U.S. military members.

Chelan County is asking people to help identify Purple Heart recipients — both living and deceased — who are from Chelan or Douglas counties or from the cities of Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Chelan and Rock Island. Family members of eligible recipients are also encouraged to come forward on behalf of their loved ones.

“We want to ensure that the courageous service of our community’s Purple Heart recipients is formally recognized and remembered,” said Amber Hallberg, Community Services manager and a coordinator of the event. “Their stories of sacrifice are deeply valued and we’re proud to honor them.”

To nominate a Purple Heart recipient for the Hall of Honor, or if you are a recipient or a family member of one, fill out the Hall of Honor Inductee form and email it to Hallberg. Submissions should include the recipient’s full name, branch of service, date and place of service, and any documentation or details regarding the award.

All 2025 inductee applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 18.

Inductees will be honored at a community celebration from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Wenatchee Veterans Hall, 1206 N. Wenatchee Ave.
