Construction on the Yodelin Creek project to start July 8, last into October

UPDATE (NOV. 12): Construction on the bridge is over for the season and the structure is open to motorists. The temporary detour that was in place during construction is now closed. The contractor will return to the project in spring 2020 to pave the roadway.

Construction begins on July 8 on the Yodelin Creek Culvert Replacement project, which will remove two damaged culverts on Stevens Road and replace them with a single-span bridge.

The Chelan County Public Works project will begin with the re-enforcement of a wooden US Forest Service bridge that will be used as a detour route during construction of the new bridge. The Forest Service bridge, located on Lichtenburg Place and crossing Stevens Creek, is limited to local access only, with weight limitations of 5 tons per axle or 10 tons gross weight. The speed limit is 5 mph.

The re-enforcement of the wooden Forest Service bridge should take about two weeks. Once it is complete, Stevens Road will be closed for construction from Highway 2 to Yodelin Place and the detour route will be in service.

Construction overall is expected to take about 80 working days, lasting into October. Strider Construction Co., Inc., of Bellingham was awarded the $958,569 contract in February. The project is being paid for with FEMA and State Emergency Management dollars and local road funds.

The current crossing at Stevens Road (located near the summit of Highway 2 and the county line) was damaged during a November 2015 flood event. Temporary repairs were made and the roadway has been one lane since the high water event. Although the project crosses Stevens Creek, the damaged crossing location was given the title of Yodelin Creek based upon the local description of the site and its proximity to Yodelin Place.
