County seeks people interested in serving on committees for upcoming voters pamphlet

Chelan County seeks people to serve on “for” and “against” committees for a local proposition that will ask voters for an increase in the sales-and-use tax to fund critical emergency communication systems and facilities at RiverCom.

Committee member names and contact information must be submitted to the Chelan County Commissioners Office by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, via email to BOCC.Clerk@co.chelan.wa.us. If you have questions, call 509-667-6545.

Both committees will be tasked with writing arguments for and against the proposal, which will be on the upcoming Feb. 10 ballot. The proposition reads:

The Chelan County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 25-93 Concerning funding for emergency communication systems and facilities. This proposition would authorize a sales-and-use tax increase of 1/10th of 1% (1 cent per $10) to provide ongoing funding for the costs associated with financing, design, acquisition, construction, equipping, operating, maintaining, remodeling, repairing, re-equipping and improvement of regional emergency communication systems and facilities to support the 911 communications system as provided in RCW 82.14.420. Imposition of this proposition is conditioned upon imposition of the same tax in Douglas County. Should this proposition be approved?

Committee members are required to be residents of Chelan County to draft an argument, and at least one person must be willing to be named in the Local Voters’ Pamphlet as a member of the committee. The Local Voters’ Pamphlet includes official ballot titles, explanatory statements, arguments "for" and "against" each measure, and rebuttals.
