Department, office updates on system-wide failure

On May 24, Chelan County became aware of malware affecting our network environment. In an abundance of caution, we promptly shut down our network and began an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the event. We are compiling updates from individual offices and departments below. Please check back on this page as the information is updated.

District Court

Pursuant to GR 21, there is an emergency court closure; all out-of-custody District Court hearings and trials are hereby rescheduled. Notice of new hearing schedule will be sent out at a later date. Due to technology failure issues, all hearings and trials, except jail in-custody defendants for criminal appearances, shall be continued.

This reschedule order includes out-of-custody Trial Status hearings.

Jury Duty

For Jury Groups 12-14 scheduled to call after 5 p.m. on Friday, June 12, and any other jurors scheduled to call for the week of June 15-18: You are excused and done for the term.

Auditor's Office/Recording

Chelan County’s recording systems are back online on a limited basis following a system-wide failure that occurred over the Memorial Day weekend, the acting auditor announced today.

“I know many people and businesses depend on our ability to record a variety of legal documents, including marriage licenses, deeds, mortgages, real estate contracts and liens,” said Acting Auditor Brandt Cappell. “I am grateful for the outstanding work of our IT team, which has restored our core system functions.”

The Auditor’s Office is again accepting marriage license applications. People planning to apply are strongly encouraged to complete the online “pre-application” in advance to help save time when visiting the office.

While normal recording operations have partially resumed, e-recording is currently operating on a limited basis. Cappell asks for patience from title companies, attorneys and the public as staff work through the backlog of both electronic and physical documents.

“Please keep in mind we have multiple weeks of documents to record while still managing day-to-day operations,” he said. “My staff is prioritizing the processing of all submissions while continuing to balance other duties, including vehicle and vessel registrations and title changes.”

Public Works

Because of our ongoing system-wide failure here at the county, Public Works is cancelling, until further notice, a call for RFQs (requests for qualifications) for the Burch Mountain Storm Drain Condition Assessment. A project of the Chelan County Surface and Stormwater Management Utility, the assessment of the storm drain will be readvertised. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Economic Services

Economic Services is cancelling a call for RFQs (requests for qualifications) for a water systems assessment of the Chelan County Fairgrounds and Expo Center. In addition, we are putting on hold a call for bids for a re-roofing project at the Ohme Gardens caretaker’s home. Both projects will be re-advertised. We apologize for the inconvenience.
