First Blake Relief Day a success in Chelan County

The Blake Drug Possession Relief Day, held on July 18, was a big success. The first-time event, organized by Chelan County District Court, had 25 people sign up and an additional 15 walk-ins. Some of those cases were directed to other courts, but the results were:

  • 11 City of Wenatchee cases were vacated
  • 1 case was referred to Chelan County Juvenile Court to be vacated
  • 15 Chelan County Superior Court cases were vacated
  • 1 Chelan County District Court case was vacated

In 2021, the Washington State Supreme Court found the law criminalizing drug possession unconstitutional. As a result of this decision, known as State v. Blake, any Blake-related convictions in Washington qualify to be vacated from one's criminal record, and any legal financial obligations paid as a result qualify for financial reimbursement.

“Thank you Judge Allen Blackmon, Lea Garner, Melissa Gibbs and your Chelan power team for your willingness to welcome in your community and neighboring communities for Blake relief, and for setting a great example for other courts to follow suit,” wrote Robin Zimmermann, Blake External Relations liaison with the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts, in an email.

This was Chelan County’s first time holding a Blake Relief Day. Thank you to our local courts, judges and prosecutors for their help, and thank you to the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts for its help getting the county's first event up and running.
