Learn to spot noxious weeds in our foothills

What do scentless mayweed, yellow star thistle and jointed goatgrass all have in common? They’re aggressive noxious weeds that pose serious threats to our native shrub-steppe plant communities. And we don’t want them spreading through our Wenatchee foothills.

To help combat these invasive species, the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust is partnering with the Chelan County Noxious Weed Board to offer a free, hands-on Noxious Weed Identification Workshop. The workshop is 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, at the Saddle Rock Trailhead covered shelter, 1130 Circle St. in Wenatchee.

Led by Noxious Weed Board Coordinator Adam Pfleeger and Field Supervisor Jenna Medlar, this informative workshop will help participants learn to recognize the most problematic noxious weeds found in our region, especially those that thrive following wildfire. The session will feature fresh samples for hands-on learning, and all participants will receive a free weed identification booklet to take home.

“Understanding how to identify and report noxious weeds is one of the most important steps in protecting our natural areas,” said Ryan McGrew, CDLT’s Land Manager.

This event is open to all ages. Registration is appreciated but not required. People who register will receive a reminder email two days before the event. Register online.
