Rates to increase June 1 at transfer stations

Beginning June 1, a variety of rates are increasing at the Chelan and Dryden transfer stations to cover increasing operating and disposal costs.

Chelan County commissioners in April passed separate resolutions establishing the new rates. The increase in fees will pay for not only the increase in costs at the facilities but also eventual repairs and equipment replacement at both transfer stations.

“Unfortunately, the cost of operations and maintenance is increasing. The county’s solid waste program relies heavily on funding from the state, which has decreased,” said Brenda Blanchfield, solid waste coordinator for Chelan County Public Works. “On top of that, there are some much-needed repairs and improvements to be made at both transfer stations to keep up with their growing use.”
