Sept. 24 open house at newly renovated Veteran Services Office
The public is invited to stop in and tour the newly renovated Chelan County Veteran Services Office during an open house, 1 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 25.
The office, 428 Orondo Ave. in Wenatchee, is located in a 74-year-old home that was converted to office space when the county purchased the building in 1995. Renovations were completed earlier this summer.
The primary reason for the renovation was to make the facility ADA-compliant. The county did an ADA facility assessment in 2023 and the office was identified as the No. 1 county-owned building in need of ADA upgrades. The upgrades were needed to make the building accessible to the people it serves:
A new wheelchair ramp was added
Doorways were made larger to accommodate wheelchairs
The bathroom is now fully ADA-compliant
Electrical updates were made for better safety and energy efficiency
Energy-efficient doors and windows were installed using the PUD’s energy efficiency grant program
Updates were made to individual offices and the kitchen
Fresh coats of paint on the outside and inside to make the building more pleasing and soothing to the people we serve
The county used $250,000 in COVID-relief monies from the American Rescue Plan Act to pay for the renovations.
