Recertification: Attendance only required May 15, 2015
A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is an individual appointed by the court to represent the best interests of a child or incapaciated person involved in a case in the superior court.
To become a GAL, an individual must complete an initial training program, provide background information to the court(s) in which the GAL wishes to serve, and meet all eligibility requirements set by statute and individual county local court rules.

For qualifications in other counties, please check with your county registry manager. A list of registry managers is available on the Administrative Office of the courts webpage (under Registry Application Procedure): http://www.courts.wa.gov/committee/?fa=committee.home&committee_id=105
Please be sure to check with the registry manager in your county (usually located at the Superior Courthouse) to make sure you will likely qualify for appointment before registering for this training, if that is your intent. This training is open to all interested persons.
This training does NOT satisfy registry requirements for: Title 26 Family Law GALs, Adoption GALs, Dependency GALs, or Settlement GALs.
This training does NOT satisfy the requirements for Initial Certification to the Washington State Certified Professional Guardian Registry. Completion of this training does not guarantee appontment to any county registry. Title 11 GALs must comply with all qualifications and requirements in their respective counties.
*Experienced GALs: those with at least five years of experience as a GAL and at least ten completed appointments (cumulative, not annual) may attend Day 2, May 15, 2015 via webcast.

CANCELLATIONS: Please read the full brochure when available before registering for this program. If you must cancel, tuition will be refunded less a $50 administrative fee, if cancellation is received in writing (cle@kcba.org or fax 206-267-7099) by 5:00pm, May 12 ,2015. After this date, no refunds will be permitted; however, substitute attendees are welcome.
