25C03476 - French Creek Search & Rescue

Through additional messages, RiverCom was able to obtain there were two 21 year old hikers who tried to cross a creek and got swept away.  They sustained some lower body injuries and possibly a broken toe.  They were on the shore now waiting for assistance.  The text messages also provided a precise location for the hikers.

Two Chelan County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue Deputies responded as well as 12 members of Chelan County Volunteer Search and Rescue including ground team and communications personnel.

Deputies hiked in approximately 1.5 miles to the French Creek crossing where the subjects were located.  They determined there was nothing more than minor injuries but the two male hikers would need assistance getting back across the creek.  The creek had heavy run-off flow and the trail bridge was no longer passable.  Deputies on scene requested rope equipment and the CCVSAR personnel carried it to the location.  The team of rescuers set up a rope system to assist the hikers in crossing French Creek.  They were able to hike out with the rescuers and made it to the trailhead at approximately 10:00 pm.

Please be aware this time of year creeks can be running high.  As little as 6 inches of fast flowing water can sweep an adult off of their feet.  Do not attempt to cross fast flowing water as you may end up with significant injuries or worse.
