Christmas tree recycling

Ready to take down that Christmas tree?

You’ve got a few options for recycling your tree here in the Wenatchee Valley. Options are:

Wenatchee Boy Scout Troop 7 returns this year to help people recycle their trees. Drop-off dates are Jan. 2 and Jan. 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The Scouts will be at Stemilt Organic Recycling Center in Wenatchee, 1465 S. Wenatchee Ave. (next to the Waste Management transfer station). A $5 donation to the troop is suggested to help support its programs.

For those people living in the apple maggot quarantine area of Chelan County, the county’s Leavenworth brush drop-off site will be open Friday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The site is at the intersection of East Leavenworth and Icicle roads. Cost is $15 per yard, or $5 per tree.

If you live in the city limits of Leavenworth, you can take your tree to the city recycling yard. Details are online. Limbs must be removed and cut to no more than 4 feet in length.

If you are a city of Chelan resident, you can drop your tree off at Don Morse Park (by the marina). The city will recycle the trees; the annual bonfire has been cancelled.

In Entiat, you can take your tree to the city compost pit, north of town, on Friday, Jan. 8.

The brush drop-off sites at the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations are open winter hours. Typical fees apply. No brush from the apple maggot quarantine area is allowed at the DTS.

When dropping off your tree, please make sure it is free of all tinsel and decorations.
