Chumstick Highway closed near Plain through at least Wednesday
UPDATE POSTED FEB. 16: The closure area will re-open at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
ORIGINAL POST: A portion of Chumstick Highway near Plain has been closed near the intersection of Camp 12 and Beaver Valley roads because of a large boulder that has fallen off the rocky slopes into the roadway. Chelan County Public Works is expected to announce an estimated time for re-opening sometime on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
Motorists will need to use the Tumwater Canyon corridor on Highway 2 to get to their destinations around the closure. The public also is warned to stay out of the road closure area both for its safety and the safety of the crew working.
A contractor is working now to break up the large rock that fell Sunday, Feb. 13, onto the county road. It is about 25 feet in diameter and made of stonestone, which can be difficult to break up. Two additional rocks of similar size that are near the roadway also will need to be broken up and removed.
