Corporal awarded Combat First Aid patch for quick actions

Corporal Jason Nieman of the Chelan County Regional Justice Center recently was awarded a “Combat First Aid” patch for initiating life-saving measures on a woman who was incarcerated in the jail.

In June, Nieman applied a tourniquet when responding to a medical alert of a woman who had attempted suicide. A 24-year veteran at the jail, Nieman only two months prior to the incident had completed a Combat First Aid training, which teaches first responders how to administer critical treatment in high pressure, life-saving situations.

Jenn Foreman, owner of the company that provided Nieman’s training, recently traveled to Wenatchee to award the patch of recognition to Nieman.

Nieman’s quick actions and training likely saved the woman’s life, said Chris Sharp, director of the Regional Justice Center.

“We are grateful for not only our training but also that our staff is prepared and ready, should we need to utilize our training in real-life situations,” Sharp said. “Corporal Nieman relied on his training that day while showing great dedication to the people who we care for in our facility.”
