County to build second tipping floor at Dryden Transfer Station

Chelan County commissioners have called for bids on the construction of a second tipping floor at the Dryden Transfer Station. Bids are due on Feb. 25 and will be opened at the commissioners regular board meeting.

The second tipping floor is being constructed because of a plan to divide commercial loads from private loads that come into the transfer station, which has seen steady annual growth in the volumes of garbage received at the county-owned facility for at least the past seven years. In 2019, commercial and private citizens brought 23,140 tons of garbage to the transfer station. That's a 46 percent increase from five years ago, when the transfer station recorded 15,771 tons of garbage.

The new floor will be built to the east of the current tipping floor. The project incluces resufacing the existing trash pit at the main tipping floor. The engineers estimate on the construction project is between $650,000 and $750,000. Construction is expected to start this spring and take six months.

The call for bids can be found on the Chelan County Public Works bidding page.
