Dryden, Chelan transfer stations to reduce public hours

Out of an abundance of caution over COVID-19, hours and services at both the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations have been reduced for the general public.

The drop-off brush sites at the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations are now closed. The spring opening of the county’s brush drop-off site in Leavenworth also will be delayed until further notice.

People should store their green waste at home, or compost it on their property, until the site re-opens. Or, they can take it to the Stemilt Organic Recycling Center, 1465 S. Wenatchee Ave.

In addition, the Chelan County Moderate Risk Waste Facility has been closed to public access; a future opening date has not been determined. People should store their household hazardous wastes in a dry, cool area at home until the MRWF re-opens.

At this time the county’s solid waste department is concentrating on providing essential services for the public while protecting the health of its employees, said Brenda Blanchfield, solid waste manager for Chelan County Public Works.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, the following policies will be put in place at the Dryden Transfer Station:

The facility will be open to the general public ONLY on Fridays and Saturdays. Regular hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Payment by cash and check are allowed on Friday and Saturday.

The facility and its brush yard will be open regular hours to its contractors who have accounts with Chelan County Public Works. Those hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Contractors include local cities, Waste Management and other businesses that have charge accounts with the facility. No new accounts will be taken at this time.

Also beginning March 18, the following policies will be put in place at the Chelan Transfer Station:

The facility will be open to the general public ONLY on Fridays and Saturdays. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Payment is by cash and check on Friday and Saturday.

The facility and its brush yard will be open during the week to its contractors who have accounts with the facility. However, contractors must call the manager Cory Howe at 509-557-9218 for details and to schedule an appointment.

The closures, which come as a response to statewide COVID-19 precautions, are an attempt to slow the spread of the virus to high-risk populations through social distancing and the elimination of non-essential contact. Keep up with re-opening dates on the Chelan County Public Works Facebook page and website.
