Peshastin residents are invited to a Jan. 30 workshop that kicks off a public envisioning process for a potential new community park there.

The workshop is 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Peshastin Memorial Hall, 10204 Main St.

Peshastin is one of the only communities in Chelan County that does not have a community park, a place residents can easily access, said Mike Kaputa, director of Chelan County Natural Resources. The community generally has to drive out of town to enjoy a park in one of the neighboring communities, Kaputa said.

Natural Resources secured a $35,000 grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office to work with a consultant to determine, using community input, what this potential park may look like.

The effort is focused on 65 acres of privately-owned land at the former Peshastin Mill Site. In the past, the community has expressed a high interest in evaluating alternatives for the mill site that focus on outdoor recreation opportunities.

Natural Resources, along with the Peshastin Community Council and consultant SCJ Alliance, are hosting the meeting. The public will view design concepts and concept boards and be able to comment on those potential ideas. After the meeting, the consultant will summarize the comments and eventually come up with a list of ideas for a potential park that will be shared with the public.
