Planning Commission seeks 1 new member; apply by Jan. 15
Chelan County seeks people interested in filling an unexpired term on the county’s Planning Commission, a voluntary board that makes recommendations on long-range planning matters and development regulations to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).
Candidates for the open position must live in Chelan County full-time and reside in the county’s District 3, or the northeast section of the county. District 3 includes a portion of north Wenatchee and goes northeast to Chelan and Manson.
County Commissioner Brad Hawkins, District 3, is taking applications for the unexpired seat and will recommend the final candidate to the BOCC. All applications should be emailed by 5 p.m. on Jan. 15 to the commissioner at Brad.Hawkins@co.chelan.wa.us. Finalists will be selected for interviews later in January.
As part of the application process, potential candidates must answer three questions, including why they would like to join the Planning Commission, current and past board experiences, and skills and expertise that may make them suited for the commission. The application is available online.
“I hope the county gets strong interest among District 3 residents to serve in this important role,” Hawkins said. “If things can progress as planned, I’m hoping we can fill the position before the Planning Commission’s February meeting.”
The new commission member will replace David Donovick, who recently resigned from the Planning Commission. The term expires Dec. 31, 2025; the new commission member can seek re-appointment to a full, four-year term at the end of the year.
The Planning Commission is a nine-member citizen advisory body appointed by the BOCC; three members from each of the three commissioner districts are appointed. The Planning Commission's primary function is to review recommendations regarding the Comprehensive Plan, related planning activities and zoning regulations as assigned by the BOCC.
The board meets monthly in the evenings on the fourth Wednesday of the month; however, on occasion, it may hold additional special meetings or hearings throughout the year.
