Portion of Joe Miller Road to be closed while roadway restored to two lanes

MALAGA -- A five-day road closure on a portion of Joe Miller Road begins Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Contractor KRCI, LLC, of East Wenatchee will be working to rebuild the roadway, restoring it to two lanes, between mileposts 2.20 and 2.24. That portion of the roadway was damaged in March 2016 during a landslide. A temporary fix to the roadway has allowed it to remain open at one lane at the slide area.

The road closure means motorists should look for alternative routes via Stemilt Hill Road or West Malaga Road and Hamlin Road. Motorists are asked to avoid the area from Aug. 22 to Aug. 26.

The project also will impact Cathedral Rock Road, a private road below Joe Miller Road. Cathedral Rock Road will be down to one lane, with flaggers directing traffic, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the five days of construction. Motorists there should expect minor delays.

The project is scheduled to take about 15 working days overall; the roadway will be open to school buses by the start of the new school year. Watch for updates on the road closure on the Chelan County Public Works Facebook page.

The $135,750 project, which will provide a permanent fix to the roadway, is being paid for by county dollars.
