Cooling centers open during heatwave
The Pacific Northwest is experiencing a heatwave, with the National Weather Service forecasting temperatures of up to 110 degrees June 26-27 in Chelan County and record-breaking temperatures into the Fourth of July holiday.
Cooling centers, or air-conditioned places where the public can visit to cool off, are available to people who don’t have air conditioning in their homes.
In Wenatchee, the Town Toyota Center, 1300 Walla Walla Ave., is serving as a cooling center. It will be open 24 hours a day beginning at noon on Saturday, June 26.
Also open as cooling centers are the Wenatchee Library, 310 Douglas St., and the East Wenatchee Library, 271 9th St. NE. A list of libraries in the NCW Libraries district and their operating hours are available online.
Additional locations of cooling centers will be posted to the health district's Facebook page.
Other ideas for places to keep cool during the heatwave include Pybus Market in Wenatchee, the Wenatchee Valley Mall in East Wenatchee and local movie theaters.
