Event Details:

A multi-year effort that brought together more than 100 people from organizations throughout Chelan County has resulted in a draft Climate Resiliency Strategy report that builds a foundation for future climate resilience and adaptation work. It outlines strategies in several topic areas – including wildfire, snowpack and streamflow, flooding, and water supply – and calls out next steps for implementation and coordination.

The community will have opportunities to hear more details about the report and provide input during two upcoming meetings:

Wed., Dec. 2 – 9 a.m. to Noon      Register here

Thurs., Dec. 3 – 9 a.m. to Noon    Register here

The climate resilience planning effort aims to achieve two benefits: 1) improved communication and coordination, and 2) opportunities to advance projects that provide multiple benefits. Each of the four topic areas – wildfire, snowpack and streamflow, flooding and water supply – outlines how community partners are preparing for change, along with additional input from the planning team and the community engagement process.

“Although the projected impacts of climate change can seem dire, our future doesn’t have to be,” said Mike Kaputa, director of the Chelan County Natural Resource Department. “We have choices that can prevent the worst impacts of climate change.”

In addition to the two December meetings, a round table meeting will be held in early 2021.
