Chelan County Volunteer Search and Rescue (CCVSAR) is a volunteer responder organization affiliated with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office. Each year CCVSAR responds to dozens of missing and injured person calls in the backcountry wilderness and recreational areas of central Washington.
Chelan County Emergency Worker Registration is a volunteer position. Emergency Workers may assist with specific tasks as assigned by Chelan County Emergency Management. This role is not part of CCVSAR; however, to join CCVSAR, applicants need to also be cleared as an Emergency Worker.
Chelan County Mountain Rescue (CCMR) is an all-volunteer organization whose purpose is to rescue ill or injured backcountry travellers from Chelan County's beautiful central Cascade Mountains. Members of CCMR navigate complex mountain terrain and hazards in all seasons, or undertake technical rock or ice rescue.
The American Red Cross Northwest Region relies heavily on volunteers. In fact, about 90 percent of its disaster workforce are volunteers. Volunteers serve in a variety of roles to help communities respond to and recover from disasters.
Disaster Action Team volunteers primarily respond to single-family home fires, the agency’s most common type of disaster response. Mass Care Sheltering teams ensure people impacted by disaster have a safe place to sleep in Red Cross shelters. Disaster Assessment teams review damages and impacts to begin providing casework and recovery support. Finally, the Red Cross has specialized roles for health professionals in its Disaster Health Services and Disaster Mental Health activities.
