Air Support Unit
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit operates two Bell OH-58 helicopters and is primarily used for search and rescue operations for lost and injured people within Chelan County, counter drug operations, unusual occurrences, and to support patrol in some circumstances.
The air support unit consists of three pilots, six tactical flight officers, and one flight mechanic. The air support unit has been in existence for over 20 years and started with veteran search and rescue pilot Pete “Rescue Pete” Peterson with a Bell 47 helicopter. The helicopter program has rescued many persons over the years in and out of Chelan County.
