Union Valley/Cagle Gulch Area

Most residents of the Union Valley area saw their addresses change during the summer of 2013.  Although this process may have caused some inconveniences, the benefits of consistent, logical, addressing far outweigh the effort of changing your address.

Formerly, addressing in this area caused numerous problems for emergency services, general delivery and GPS navigation and did not meet federal requirements.  Road name duplications and random address sequencing were prevalent throughout.. Every residence and business in the Union Valley area eventually received a permanent address that is based on their access rather than postal delivery or telephone service lines.  Residents have been notified of these addresses by mail and the notification letter included a “Frequently Asked Questions” section and contact information to obtain answers for additional information.

The new addresses, assigned by Chelan County are used by emergency responders, helping to reduce response times and saving lives and property.

Emergency Location & General Delivery Made Easier

Chelan County employed a measure-based structure numbering system at 1000 addresses per measured mile along the access road for areas outside an urban growth boundary.  Generally the road origin is the point of where the subject road intersects with another road. When a subject road intersects another road at both the beginning and the ending points of the road, the origin will be first the most south or west intersection.  Addressing increases by 1000 addresses per mile from this point.  This schematic yields up to five digit address numbers throughout the county.  Odd address numbers will be on the left side of the road, while even address numbers will be on the right as traveling away from the origin point.

All addresses consist of a house number followed by a road name.  The house number is determined by the location of the driveway access point, NOT by the location of the mailbox.

Road Naming and Numbering

Chelan County identified duplicate road names, which are not allowed with the new 911 addressing system.  A physical address includes both number and road name.  Some residents received both a new number and a new road name.    Some private driveways or easements received a road name.  A private driveway or easement was assigned a name if it lead to three or more addressable parcels, structures, or units or if it exceeded 1000 feet in length.  Affected property owners were given an opportunity to name their private road.  In the instances when an agreement was not reached amongst the property owners, the Chelan County addressing committee assigned a name. These newly named private roads remain private and will not be maintained by the County.

Mailing Addresses

Chelan County worked closely with USPS through this process.  The newly assigned address is also your mailing address unless you use a post office box.
