This morning the Chelan County Board of Commissioners have taken the step of signing an Emergency Declaration Resolution in regards to the COVID 19 virus. Chelan County now has two confirmed cases of the COVID 19 virus in our County, and the precautionary measures put in place by the Governor and the Federal Government have impacted our community. By signing this resolution local businesses and non-profits will now have access to potential State and Federal assistance. The Chelan County Commissioners are encouraging residents to remain cautious and aware and to do everything possible to help one another during this difficult time.
UPDATED 3/26/20: Out of an abundance of caution over COVID-19, hours and services at both the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations have been reduced for the general public. Brush yards are closed to the general public at the two facilities.

The Chelan-Douglas Horticultural Pest and Disease Department will be kicking off our free Backyard Fruit Tree Removal Program on March 9th, 2020. The program runs from March through October each year in both Chelan and Douglas Counties.
UPDATED: The bid opening date for the Wenatchee Heights Road Improvement Project has been moved back to April 14. Construction is expected to start in August and take 60 working days.
UPDATED: A $19.3 million contract was awarded to SB Structures of Seattle for the construction of the new West Cashmere Bridge. An open house planned for the project has been cancelled.

Sandbag materials are available for Chelan County residents at county-owned public works maintenance shops. Residents who have an immediate need for sandbags because of high runoff or snowmelt issues can call the public works maintenance district of which they reside to set up a time to fill and pick up the sandbags.
Bids are due on Feb. 25 for the construction of a second tipping floor at the Dryden Transfer Station.
Clean Harbors Environmental Services of Kent, a contractor with Chelan County Public Works, will be visiting the area about once a month to pick up hazardous material from businesses at the county’s new Moderate Risk Waste Facility. Appointments for pick-up must be scheduled with Clean Harbors.
Des Moines Municipal Court Administrator Jennefer Johnson and Chelan County Superior Court Administrator Fona Sugg were both named as the 2019 Court Manager of the Year at the BJA/CMC joint meeting on November 15. The award, established in 1987, honors an outstanding court manager for their exemplary contributions to the administration of justice in our courts.
The Board of Chelan County Commissioners on Tuesday called for bids to be received on the West Cashmere Bridge Replacement Project, the largest project the county’s road department has ever undertaken. Bids are due Jan. 21.
The new Moderate Risk Waste Facility is open year round to all Chelan County residents.
Originally scheduled for a 12/5/19 effective date, the initiative has been the target of more than one lawsuit. An injunction gives parties the opportunity to challenge or defend the validity of I-976. The current fee structure must remain in place unless a judge rules otherwise.
A contractor for Chelan County begins work on Monday, Oct. 21, replacing a failing stormwater pipe on South Wenatchee Avenue, near Boodry Street. About 650 feet of stormwater pipe will be replaced. Heavy rains this summer caused sinkholes to form along the deteriorated pipe, exposing the problem.
The fees charged at the Chelan County brush drop-off site in Leavenworth will increase beginning Oct. 11.
Chelan County Public Works will replace about 1,000 feet of stormwater pipe in the South Wenatchee area after a second sinkhole in two months formed on South Wenatchee Avenue near Boodry Street. A steel plate has been placed over the sinkhole for the time being.
A contractor for Chelan County begins work on Monday, Sept. 16, on South Lakeshore Road at Lake Chelan, removing debris from the catch basin and channels at Slide Ridge.

A road closure on South Wenatchee Avenue – just before the bridge between Boodry and Beuzer streets – will remain in place for the unforeseeable future while Chelan County Public Works, in coordination with the county’s Surface and Stormwater Management Utility, evaluates how best to address a large sinkhole in the roadway.
Chelan County Public Works will hold an open house 5 to 6:30 p.m. on August 8 for people looking to learn more about the Wenatchee Heights Road Improvement Project. Construction on the project is planned for summer 2020.
Construction begins on July 8 on the Yodelin Creek Culvert Replacement project, which will remove two damaged culverts on Stevens Road and replace them with a single-span bridge. A detour route will be in place for local traffic only when Stevens Road is closed for construction.
Chelan County Public Works invites the public to an open house on June 27 that will provide information about the West Malaga Road Intersections project. The open house is 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Malaga Fire Station, 3760 W. Malaga Road.
