County-Wide Climate Resilience Planning

Take our community survey!

The Chelan County Resilience Planning Survey is here! Your input will help shape our community's approach to climate resilience and adaptation. The survey takes less than 10 minutes and is available in English and Spanish.

Climate change is predicted to have wide-ranging impacts on life in Chelan County. During the past decade, Chelan County has experienced more extreme droughts, declining snowpack, and wildfire seasons - providing an indication of the future as the conditions continue to change.

In 2020, the County and regional planning partners developed the Chelan County Climate Resiliency Strategy. After the strategy was released, partners formed a Climate Resiliency Round Table, which met through 2023. Information on various locally led efforts to build climate resilience in Chelan County is accessible through the archive.

2026 Climate Resiliency Element

In 2024, Chelan County embarked on a new climate resiliency planning process to develop a Climate Resilience Element as part of the County’s Comprehensive Plan update. The planning process is the result of new state legislation, which requires each city and county to integrate climate resilience into the Comprehensive Plan’s goals and policies.

During the planning process, the planning team will evaluate the predicted impacts of climate-exacerbated hazards on assets within the County to better understand the community’s vulnerability and risk to future conditions. The climate-exacerbated hazards to be assessed include flooding, extreme precipitation, wildfire, extreme heat and cold, drought, and snowpack loss. The Climate Resilience Element will include goals and policies focused on increasing the County’s resiliency and adaptability to changing conditions.
