Streamflow Monitoring

Streamflow Monitoring

The Chelan County Natural Resource Dept. (CCNRD) and the Washington State Department of Ecology will operate and maintain streamflow monitoring gauges throughout the Wenatchee watershed.  CCNRD is also collecting data on surface water flows in the Chumstick and Mission Creek watersheds.

The Chelan County Natural Resource Dept. and Cascadia Conservation District, in conjunction with the Washington Department of Ecology's Stream Hydrology Unit (SHU), installed 17 continuous recording and 12 manual stage height stream flow gages throughout the Wenatchee and Entiat watersheds. The gauges will provide baseline data on the amount of surface water flowing in the rivers and streams of the Wenatchee and Entiat watersheds.

The Cascadia Conservation District and the Washington State Department of Ecology will operate and maintain the gauges throughout the Entiat watershed. For more information on the Entiat Watershed gauges, please contact Kate Koenig or 509-664-9355.

Chumstick and Mission Creek surface water flows

This project characterizes surface water flows within Chumstick creek and Mission creek by installing manual stage height gages (staff gages) and collecting discharge data at these locations over a range of flow conditions to develop rating curves that relate stage height with creek discharge.  Mini-piezometers will also be installed at all gage locations to define the vertical hydraulic gradient and direction of water flow between the creek and underlying aquifer.  Pressure transducers will be installed at all stations to measure water depth.  The transducer data will provide a continuous record of water depth which can be compared to staff gage readings and discharge measurements providing a synoptic characterization of discharge within the two creeks. Project funding has been provided by the Department of Ecology.
