Chelan County has been working for many years with the stakeholders and communities along the shores of Lake Chelan on water quality issues, water resources and water rights, long-term water quality monitoring and watershed planning efforts. From 1991 to 2007, water quality planning activities were conducted by the Lake Chelan Water Quality Committee (LCWQC). In 2007, the Lake Chelan Watershed Planning Unit (LCWPU) was formed, largely by members of the LCWQC, and has been meeting quarterly since then to continue the objectives and activities of the LCWQC.
In 2012, the LCWPU adopted the Lake Chelan Watershed Plan prepared under the Watershed Planning Act and the associated Detailed Implementation Plan. The 2012 plan focused on water supply, fish habitat improvement and water quality issues. Since that time, the LCWPU has been working on implementing recommendations under the 2012 plan and guiding restoration efforts within the watershed.
In 2025, the County embarked on expanding the LCWPU with the intent to better reflect the diversity of interests in the Lake Chelan watershed and update the watershed plan to represent those interests and address current and emerging issues. This resulted in the establishment of the Lake Chelan Collaborative (LCC).
The LCC will work to identify key data gaps and prioritize issues within the Lake Chelan watershed and make recommendations on how to best address them. This effort will culminate in a Lake Chelan Watershed Restoration Plan and Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan.
The LCC holds quarterly hybrid virtual and in-person meetings. Meetings are open to the public. For meeting information and agendas please contact Elle Robinson via email.
