The Governor's Office recently announced the 11 Smart Communities Award winners for 2020-21. Among the winners are Chelan County and the cities of Chelan County, who are recognized for their partnership in building the Moderate Risk Waste Facility, a year-round community resource that safely disposes of household hazardous wastes.
More than 26 tons of household hazardous waste has been collected since the beginning of the year at the new Chelan County Moderate Risk Waste Facility.
From June 1 through June 10, the Dryden Transfer Station will be closed to all customers so a contractor can make needed repairs. The facility will re-open on June 11.
Commissioners on April 28 approved a call for bids on a brush grinding contract for the brush sites at the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations as well as at the Leavenworth site.
Drop-off brush yards at both the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations are now closed to the general public in response to social distancing policies that have been mandated by the governor.
UPDATED 3/26/20: Out of an abundance of caution over COVID-19, hours and services at both the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations have been reduced for the general public. Brush yards are closed to the general public at the two facilities.
Clean Harbors Environmental Services of Kent, a contractor with Chelan County Public Works, will be visiting the area about once a month to pick up hazardous material from businesses at the county’s new Moderate Risk Waste Facility. Appointments for pick-up must be scheduled with Clean Harbors.
